Texting NOT RECOMMENDED as a way of communication with your supervisor
We DO NOT recommend members to use text messaging as a way of communication with their direct supervisor or any management level personnel.
If you allow/take part in texting with your direct supervisor or any management level personnel you are creating a pattern and giving the impression it is okay to use texting as a way of communicating. If just ONE TIME technology fails and you do not receive an important text, they will take disciplinary action. It has happened—STOP TEXTING with your direct supervisor or any management level personnel.
Management needs to communicate directly with you by verbally talking with you in person or on the phone. Texting is not an acceptable way of communication.
The next time your supervisor texts you, text back:
“I have been advised by my Union representative to inform you that I will no longer accept text messages from you on my personal cell phone either at work or at home.”
Once you send that text they are not authorized to text you again and do not respond to any text messages.
Keep in mind, you are required to give the University a phone number so that management can contact you when you are not at work. You should give them a land-line number. If you do not have a land line you should consider getting one.
